The Secret Power of Red

Audrey Hepburn once said, "There is a shade of red for every woman,"  and I couldn't agree more. One of my absolute favourite things is diving deep into the delicious details of colour. I'll admit I'm more than a little obsessed. While I'm a professionally trained colour consultant, I believe the seasonal colour system is old-school now. It's not the be-all, end-all answer. It's basic and far too restrictive on it's own.

Colour is about so much more than matching it to your skin tone. It's about your unique personal colour pattern, voice, personality, energy and emotions. That's what I explore with my clients and students - helping them find the colours that resonate deeply with who they are.

(And let's not forget how our colour needs shift as our skin, hair and eyes change over time, losing some of their original lustre. It's all part of embracing the natural shifts in contrast and vibrancy.)

For today, let me ask: Do you wear red, {{ first_name }}?

It's the colour of sexuality, romance and lust. It's also the colour of strength and confidence.

In a STYLE THERAPY column, I wrote about the complexity of red, and revealed a deeply personal story of how red impacted my emotions, perceptions of myself and my mental well-being.

That article prompted one of my past students, Vikki to get in touch with me to share her RED stories, both personal and professional.

Here's what she told me...

I met my husband at a New Year's Eve dance. I was wearing a beautiful dress in a rich, red tone. I felt beautiful in it. The song *Lady in Red* was played a lot at the dances we went to when we were getting to know each other, so you really brought back some fond memories for me.

Then she remembered another red story...

I set up a meeting with my boss and two clients to resolve some difficulties. I chose to wear a don't-mess-with-me red suit that day. My boss arrived wearing a red tie. Our client's (a man and a woman) walked into the meeting wearing red as well. I recall the meeting ended well, however I felt like our clothes were all yelling at each other the entire time.
