How to Answer THE Big Question
Oct 06, 2019
Every person has their own big questions that no one else can answer.
~Oprah
To do or to not to do? That is THE question.
(With a nod of inspiration from an opening phrase of a soliloquy uttered in Shakespeare's Hamlet.)
Here's what got me thinking.
There's a lot going on in my life right now. Some good stuff, some other stuff.
I've been packing up my mom's condo getting ready for the move to a long-term care home for seniors. When I called 911 two months ago, none of us could have imagined that she'd never be able to live in her own home again.
Changes.
I've been in *to do* mode for months. My brain is busy. I don't know how to turn it off. It gets ridiculous. My list keeps getting longer. I feel frustrated. I wonder if I'll ever have the time or energy to intentionally create and live my own life again.
I moved her yesterday.
I asked myself what the highest and best use of my time would be given the gazillion things I might be doing to get it all done.
I made a choice.
I spent the day with her just being her daughter.
Present.
In the moment.
I'll do that again today, and in the days to come. Until she settles into her new reality I'll be there with and for her.
Like she's always been for me.
That's my choice.
Sometimes it is better to put off today what you can do tomorrow.
